As a result of The Defenders #1 the Hulk will have been split into 10 separate Hulks each with their own unique personalities and twists. With at least 8 of these Hulks able to roam the planet for a short period before Ed resolves this plot back in The Defenders we felt that it would be a fun opportunity to give you guys a chance to play with one of these 8 Hulks. HULK: SPECTRUM is a limited anthology where you guys can write a one shot issue free from your own titles continuity (and free from having to dedicate a numbered issue of your run) and have the characters of your books interact with a Hulk. HULK: SPECTRUM will leave you free to acknowledge this confrontation when you wish.
Say, for example, HULK: SPECTRUM #1 would be West Coast Avengers vs. Gray Hulk.
Now, this doesn't automatically mean that each confrontation will result in a massive battle. In fact, as you read the personalities of these Hulks below, you'll find that a battle wouldn't make sense based on the Hulk you pick. But the confrontation/interaction will be entirely up to you based on your interpretation of these Hulks based on the descriptions below as they're simply guides for the Hulk. Just be aware to take any preconceived notion of the known Hulks out of the equation, as these are different from them.
What we'll do now is allow the authors a chance to grab a dib on the Hulk of their choice in a first come, first serve fashion. You'll be free to trade Hulks between each other if things don't work out with your first pick.
These are the Hulks:
The Hulk's most common element is the fact that he transforms when he is angry and then grows stronger as he gets angrier. Ed will be taking that core element and making a translation of that as a mainstay of all these Hulks.
Red: Although red is often associated as the color of rage and violence it is also mystically the color of LOVE. The Red Hulk will grow stronger as the love inside him swells and he could be fueled by the love he empathically feels in others. You may find this Hulk in areas of great love, such as newborn wards in a Hospital...well, close by maybe.
My Commentary: I think this Hulk has huge potential. Not only can he draw strength from those that are in love or feeling love at the moment he's near them, but from a great desire to GIVE love. The more pathetic, tragic or dire a situation is the greater his desire to give love is and if he's denied the chance to he can be terrifyingly dangerous. Almost like he's gone rabid, confused and desperate. His desire to love is inexhaustible and so is his desire to feel love.
Orange: This Hulk is the most peaceful of all the Hulk incarnations at his base. Orange Hulk can be found wandering the great wilderness being one with nature. Picking up fallen trees, helping animals and communing with the secret creatures such as the Sasquatch in Canada, the Great Beasts and Snowbird. But if you remove him from the wilderness and place him in an urban environment bad things will happen.
My Commentary: This is the PETA Hulk, the Tree Hugger Hulk. He's a friendly creature when left to himself and he can be approached by man if they're careful. Orange Hulk is the most dangerous when he's witnessing deforestation, pollution and the needless slaughter of animals outside of the natural order of things.
Yellow: This Hulk represents all of Banner's repressed shame. Shame for mistreating Betty as both Hulk and Banner, shame for not being strong in willpower enough to resist the Hulk and the needless destruction caused by the Hulk. This Hulk is automatically at its peak strength and performance at its base, making him very deadly if dealt with carelessly. However, he is introverted and peaceful as long as he's able to live in isolation so he can wallow in his shame and depression. But the more complacent he is, the greater his confidence then his strength decreases by being calmer.
My Commentary: The Yellow Hulk gets weaker when consoled, thus making him safer to be around. Being that when he's feeling great shame is when he's at the strongest, but he's always feeling great shame making him extremely dangerous to deal with from the start. His desire to live in some sort of self-exile can put anybody in a precarious predicament. Yellow Hulk doesn't feel like he deserves to be loved or liked. It'll take some effort to console this Hulk so if you make progress you better ride the tide or risk losing any ground made.
Green: Pure Rage. This Hulk is pretty much as close to the standard Savage Hulk as opposed to the others. With the mind of a child he wanders where he was created, finding shelter and company with the mutated creatures that reside there. The angrier he gets the stronger he gets.
My Commentary: He's one of the few familiar faces and its nice that there's one we understand and can approach without much interpretation. BUT. The absence of the other emotions could be disastrous for anybody who gets him mad. This Hulk lacks the compassion; understanding and reasoning that could be used to calm him down when he gets enraged. There's no more failsafe, no more barrier to contain his rage. He's inconsolable. When this bastard gets going it'll be d**n near impossible to stop him.
Blue: The most intelligent of the Hulks. This Hulk possesses all of Banner's intelligence and is always willing to use it. He gets stronger the more he thinks by doing and solving complex equations, allowing his muscles to double in size to be stronger and more powerful. His intelligence remains the same the bigger and stronger he gets.
My Commentary: Blue Hulk is interesting because he radiates intelligence, and his proximity to people could even boost their own natural intelligence and ability to decipher equations. His biggest flaw is his ego. He'd almost be like the Rodney McKay of the Hulks. thingyy and confident 'cause he knows he can back it up and he often does, so it fuels his ego more. I think this Hulk could be unique in the he could grow both weaker than base and stronger than base. If he feels stupid or is proven wrong to make him feel stupid (in any situation that discredits his intellect) he grows weaker. The more he can solve and he's right, he's stronger.
Indigo: The reasoning and wisdom of Banner is given form in this Hulk. This Hulk is a metaphysical being, charged with all of the mystical elements of the Hulks mind and arcane knowledge he possess (spectral sight, ability to find anybody on the Earth). With this Hulk the more knowledge he learns the more in control he is of his mind. In order to continue to function he must consume knowledge and ideas. He is also every artistic urge in Banner and every creative outlet personified.
My Commentary: He's the opposite of Blue. Where Blue radiates intelligence, this Hulk consumes and absorbs knowledge. His presence COULD make people dumb (not necessary) but this Hulk must always find something new to learn and he doesn't share that knowledge with anybody, unlike the Blue Hulk who can't stop sharing what he knows. This Hulk as a single objective: consume knowledge and this could put him at odds with people by being in places he shouldn't be. Unlike the other Hulks this Hulk will sleep, but he's not really sleeping as much as his subconscious mind has taken over and in this sleeplike state the Indigo Hulk creates art. His brain, while able to absorb an ungodly amount of information, it HAS to bleed that knowledge off somewhere and that knowledge is translated into that art. He could almost be the Pai Mei of all the Hulks when he's in his happy medium. The more obsessed he grows with knowledge fuels his obsession, but the more ADD he feels forces him to grow weaker.
Violet: This Hulk is Banners control. But there's a hitch. The calmer and the more control this Hulk is in the DENSER it becomes. If totally relaxed this Hulk can generate a small gravitational pull. Nothing massive, but enough to be a problem when there's a lot of things around him (like being in a city). The more upset/angry this Hulk becomes the more intangible it becomes, which leads to his distress fueling that anger more. The danger here lies in that the angrier its gets and the most intangible it gets this Hulk could disperse into the ether...effectively destroying a crucial part of Banners personality.
My Commentary: The fun bit to this Hulk is how the frustration he feels at being intangible only causes him to grow more. That, like with most of the Hulks, the extremes to his theme are when he's the most dangerous or in the most danger. When controlled he's dangerous due to his density, and when that control slips his frustration LETS that slip more and more. The trick to calming this Hulk down, but not too much, will be fun in seeing where this Hulk's happy medium lies.
Gray: This is the selfish, arrogant side of the Hulk. Created to be the new Joe Fixit. This Hulk feels comfortable in his old stomping ground of Las Vegas where he finds women, money and power quickly. Intelligent, malicious and materialistic. Not as smart as Blue or Banner.
My Commentary: I'm very interested to see if the new Mr. Fix-It is a lot like the old Mr. Fix-It in terms of strategy and cruelty. If he remembers what he used to be and what he's lost (in intelligence that is) and if he keeps trying to reclaim that and can't, how much meaner and cruel and vindictive is he going to be then? A lot, I'd say.
Black: Humor, sarcasm, wit and dark/gallows humor. This form of the Hulk desires to be liked and he uses his comedy to achieve that. The funnier people thing this Hulk is, the stronger and wittier he gets. He reacts to genuine laughter and acceptance. Any warm emotion makes him stronger.
My Commentary: One of the weirder Hulks. He'd likely be found in groups of people / comedy clubs in an effort to perform and excite laughs from them. His strength is drawn from humor. So, he could even draw strength from movie theaters where large groups go to watch comedies. It'd be funny if Black Hulk goes to the 10:30 showing of The Pink Panther, and leaves the show emaciated due to how unfunny the movie really was. The empathic nature of this Hulk would only feed on GENIUNE laughter, not some fake stuff done to be polite. This Hulk could be driven mad by being ridiculed, mocked and heckled. When he's in a situation where he's bombing and he can't pull himself out his panic could take over and drive him to rage. He's also looking for a joke in ANY situation. Be it in a fight, in death. Whether it's inappropriate or appropriate he'll take the shot for a joke.
White: This is the pure consciousness of Banner. This is the only form that IS Banner. He is intangible, sad, and full of iridescent power. He exists as an astral form, moving around the realms of consciousness. He strength comes from his own sense of will and intelligence. He's the most NORMAL of the personalities split apart.
My Commentary: He's finally in a position where he's free from the burdens of the Hulk and he can't even capitalize on it by being Astral and seen only by those who can perceive the astral realm, including the Hulks. In the end this sucker is going to have to willingly bear the burden of the Hulks again in order to reform them and spare the world the danger of having all these Hulks free.

So, those are the Hulks. It should be noted that SEVEN (7) of those Hulks are already taken off the market.
RED HULK is dibbed to Astonishing X-Men
BLUE HULK is dibbed to The Defenders
GRAY HULK is dibbed to West Coast Avengers
BLACK HULK is dibbed to The Amazing Spider-Man
GREEN HULK is dibbed to X-Force
INDIGO HULK is dibbed to X-Factor
ORANGE HULK is dibbed to Ka-Zar
I believe that should leave the others: Yellow, Violet and White available.
HULK: SPECTRUM will start AFTER The Defenders #1. There isn't a real time frame for any submissions, as this'll take place off to the side, though I'd imagine a solid 3 or 4 months should be enough time for anybody to get their issue in. Nobody is obligated to do this; we just figured it'd be a fun exercise to play around with.
Feel free to respond to this with any Hulk you with to lay your claim to for this issue. Just, please trim out all of this before you do.
