Hey everyone-
I just wanted to get some activity going a bit on the boards and issue a small challenge that will get some discussion going.
Anyone who's up for it, I challenge you to write a single issue about a character/concept that Marvel has done since our cut-off for the Tales to Astonish or X-Men Unlimited anthologies.
I hear you ask- What do you mean Tony?
Well, here's some examples.
The Initiative (including ANY of the individual teams) Scorpion (Carmilla Black) Amadeus Cho Agent X Secret Warriors/Caterpillars
I'll be doing a story to reform a villain Marvel's recently reformed, but in a completely different (and much more organic) way. What about you?

Interesting idea, Tony.
A concept that Marvel have done recently, how recently are we talking, like, within the noughties?
If so, then I have to say, I was rather taken with the New Damage Control, especially Visoneer. I think she's rather fun.
I must say there are actually a lot of concepts from Various points across Marvel that've been ignored but are brilliant. Anyone read that short lived MCTech series about Warlock? Out of the three books that were released, that one was my favourite, even though Deathlok and Machine Man were really very good.
That had some great concepts in it. Hrm, this is a difficult one Tony. Irredemable Ant-Man was a very fun character as well, I especially liked the fact he was a complete Bastard. I might have a crack at him. There's not enough complete bastard characters floating about.

Deathlok is one of those characters I'd dearly love to do something with but never seem to find the time or the right opportunity. I'm partial to the original Luther Manning Deathlok.

I'm totally unfamiliar with Deathlok in any form, but I'd read it with you writing in a heartbeat Derrick.
Ed on either Warlock or Ant-Man, I'm there. :-)

I think there's an opporunity here for TALES TO ASTONISH that could go beyond the idea here. What if we did a twist on the Marvel Two-In-One's and/or Marvel Team-Up where we took one established character that hasn't been introduced yet in MA and pair him with a character that was created/intro'd after our cut-off?
OR (even better)
We take TALES TO ASTONISH back to it's roots and we do two seperate short stories where the first half of the issue is the established character and the last half is the new. This way we give the characters their focus and still put a new spin on two characters. So, for example, Ed's TtA could be a Warlock / Amadeus Cho issue. Not to say he's going to write Cho, just an example. So, Derrick, if we follow this format you could do a Luthor Manning Deathlok story and a new character and kill two birds with one stone.
The more I think about it, this idea is the most appealing to me as it sticks true to the spirit of the older series that would see a Namor story to start and a Hulk story to finish.
And then the story is what it is. It's just a series of ONE SHOTS that explore people that aren't an active part of the MA Universe, but the power comes in fleshing out the larger world that exists outside of the pages of the Ongoings and the people involved.
Eh?
