Transitioning to MA from Marvel Lab meant the editors here had 14 issues of Amazing...Inhumans and 9 issues of Amazing...Black Widow stockpiled and at one issue per release, it is still going to be a long time until either of those titles are caught up here. That gives me an awful lot of freetime for developing a companion title that would allow me to track events from the same timeline, from a different perspective.
My most-read story on fanfiction.net remains my retelling of Amazing Spider-Man #90, so doing a 1970s Spider-Man story would have been a natural choice. But when I polled the Marvel Lab folks about what else they would want to see in the "1970sverse", the Fantastic Four were a surprise winner. And it just so happened that I already had the first issue written (1970s FF #1 is just part of a longer retelling of Fantastic Four #110 up on fanfiction.net). I couldn't use my already-written Spider-Man story because it was from 1970 and out of the time frame I was looking to write in. So laziness won and 1970s Fantastic Four became my third title.
