Amazing...Inhumans #1 would have shared a cover date with Marvel's other May 1971 releases, which included Amazing Adventures #6. This was the second issue of Roy Thomas' "new" direction for the Inhumans' solo series, but there wasn't really much new about it. Black Bolt was an amnesiac (like how Medusa had once been an amnesiac) and Maximus was behind the already-cliched "coup in Attilan" plot again.
I decided to ditch it all. There was no reason at all for Black Bolt to be wandering San Francisco other than Thomas' metafictional need to test the waters for more West Coast-based titles. Black Bolt's Rick Jones-like sidekick was so forgettable that I can look up his name and never remember it again the next day (it's Joey; I just looked it up again. He didn't even rate having a last name, apparently!). And Neal Adams might have done a lot of good things for comics, but Maximus' goofy costume from that period was not one of them.
No, I didn't want to start with my focus on Black Bolt. I wanted to start with where it all started -- back with Medusa.
