Namor the Sub-Mariner has a somewhat more positive history in this timeline. He accepted an offer to become the first new member of the Avengers, replacing the Hulk, at the beginning of '64 and his closer association with heroes helped his full memories come back faster. By mid-1965, though, he had a falling out with the rest of the Avengers over their direction (chiefly their lack of enthusiasm in Viet Nam) and left the team. His solo adventures continued until the Invisible Girl went on pregnancy leave from the Fantastic Four in early '68. Namor has served with the FF since.
Namor's outfit slowly expanded from green trunks too, adding a sleeveless, open-chested shirt when he joined the Avengers and then later a short-sleeved FF uniform top with matching shorts.
Namor has just recently lost his first wife, Dorma. Luckily, his second cousin-wife, Namora, is helping him through his grief.

So question. Why was Namor interested in Vietnam?

Ah, nothing too deep there! Namor just likes to fight. The others needed more justification than the Vietnam War offered, but for Namor it was, "There's a war going on? I'm there!"
Prepare to see more of my "Namor is just a big, impetuous kid" take on the Sub-Mariner in the upcoming back-up stories to Captain America: Year One!

I'm assuming he must not have been scared of potentially setting off an international incident?

Is Namor ever worried about not creating international incidents? Compared to mounting a full-scale invasion of New York City, people look at Namor attacking the Viet Cong and go "Wow, he's really mellowed out!"
