I like letting a whole pile of issues of a title's run build up, usually 3 issues or more because often it's after the third issue I can tell where a writer is going and what he's going to do with the characters and situations. After having read nine issues of MASTER OF KUNG FU I can't say for sure where David Brashear is going and I honestly can't say if I'm going to stick around for future issues.
Let me explain: with a series like MASTER OF KUNG FU the one thing you've got to have is plenty of kung fu action and there simply isn't enough here for me. The fights aren't described in enough detail to convince me that these are actually people fighting. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't expect every issue to be Shang-Chi locked in a battle to the death but if you have a series called MASTER OF KUNG FU and there's no kung fu it's like doing a Godzilla sereis with no giant monsters in it.
In fact, after reading the series I'm wondering if David shouldn't reboot the series and call it FREELANCE RESTORATIONS as I get the feeling he's honestly more interested in the other characters and what they're doing in the series than he is in Shang-Chi.

Harsh. I guess if you stop, I'll keep reading it for you!

Sorry you haven't enjoyed the book thus far, Derrick, but with only 3 issues left I hope that you'll hang around for the big finale in #12.
As for the rest of the cast, I wanted to give each character their own story and allow them to shine a bit.
Hopefully you'll see where we were going after issue 12. That's the end of the winding road and you'll see what's been planned all along.
