ALPHA FLIGHT 2010: Year In Review
(#5-8) by Gavin Devlin
The Cast: Vindicator, Guardian, Puck, Radius, Flex, Murmur, Northstar, Aurora, Sasquatch, Manbot, Diamond Lil, Madison Jeffries, Yukon Jack, Ouija, Zuzha Yu, and Major Mapleleaf II
Antagonists Faced: Evil Alphan clones, Jerome Jaxon, and the Zodiac Cartel
Standout Character: Aurora
Best Moment: Aurora stabbing her doppelganger with a fire poker.
Overall: Man these four issues were immensely depressing. There was just this overall negative cloud hanging over Alpha Flight to the point I was really feeling bad for the team. Gavin started the tone and definitely continued to build on it. The tension between Vindicator and Guardian was well done as it was a natural progression of the things they had been through over the years. In many ways they sort of mirror what Cyclops and Phoenix have been through. Gavin really did a good job digging into them. At times, I wish the characterization would have been shown more than spoon fed to us through exposition. The dialogue should have carried a lot of more weight. I was so so on the Alpha clones, but I applaud Gavin for following this plot to its end. I look forward to where Nik is going to take the title. He has an interesting cast that is in a very interesting place and he can do some good things with it.

I thank you for your review.
This was a title that I took over from David Little with the intention of finishing the storylines he had created and pushing the tale forward to a conclusion. Sasquatch was feral, whilst Shaman and Snowbird were dead. The Clones were a storyline I had inherited, and not one I would have chosen, but I took the storyline as I had recieved it and sculpted it into something I enjoyed to write. I'll readily admit that most of the issues were overbearingly depressing, as I came to struggle writing them myself. I am however proud of the story arcs I concocted with Vindicator and Guardian, and with Aurora. I only regret that I had not explored Aurora's further.
I wish Nik luck on the title and I am sure that he will do a splendid job, with a great cast before him.

Well I always give a hats off to writers who take it upon themselves to tie up another writer's loose ends respectfully. I've seen it happen too many times where new writers come on to a title and completely disrespect or disregard what another writer before them did. I've had it happen to myself on two very distinct occassions so I applaud you for not taking that route.
