X.S.E. 2010: Year In Review
(#1-4) by Gavin Devlin
The Cast: Bishop, Husk, Madrox, Wolfsbane, Alisande Morales, Blackwing, Blaquesmith, Albert, Elsie-Dee, Skybolt, Phaser and Irene Merryweather
Antagonists Faced: Shiva
Standout Character: Alisande Morales
Best Moment: Albert and Elsie-Dee go berserk
Overall: X.S.E. is a very functional title. Gavin knows what purpose X.S.E. is supposed to serve in the greater universe and has no problem executing that to a T. Alisande Morales is probably one of the more realistic commanders at the site and Gavin has no compunctions about writing an out and out racist. Quite frankly, Morales is that and I don’t see any hope of redemption for her. Gavin doesn’t allow you to think there is either, but for that reason I particularly enjoy her character. What I would like to see in this title more is some flavor because it is a bit too functional to the point where it can become a bit tedious. The narrative needs not to be quite as dense I think and could use a little livening up. X.S.E. has an atmosphere that is so business like that it can be a downer. So I’d like to see some more flavor in the title.

Sorry for the late reply. It's exam time and I've been stuck into revision.
Morales doesn't want to be in charge of the mutants. This is merely a stepping stone for Morales and I don't think it necessary for her to hide her complete disdain. In her brief stint with the XSE, she has witnessed very little that is positive of this coalition. I write character stories and she'll continue to be an integral part of those stories in the near future. I understand that until now the series has been a little business-like, or overly so, and I hope to rectify that in the future. I will work on also using dialogue to further my stories, and I hope the future stories of these characters, through their romances and their disappointments, will prove to be more entertaining with the streamlined cast.
Thanks for your time.

Yea I like the fact that for Morales this is just a job and not some great campaign to help mutantkind. She's a career officer and is going to take the opportunities to help further her career. Unfortunately, Xavier's lot has a rebellious tendency so I'm sure that's only going to grate Morales even more in the future. It's kind of funny because I see a negative feedback here. The more draconian Morales gets, the more rebellious the mutants get and so on and so on until there's a breaking point. It'll be interesting to see when that happens.
