EXILES 2010: Year In Review
(#6) by Mitch Crane
The Cast: Blink, Heather Hudson, Longshot, Power Princess, Sabretooth, Morph, Jade Nova
Supporting: Time Breakers, Axel Asher
Antagonists Faced: Sobek, Pluto, Loki, Baba Yaga, Anpao, Mikaboshi, various warriors
Stand Out Character: Jade Nova
Best Moment: Six warriors rise up to claim the weapons after the Exiles are gone
Overall: This title of Exiles is one that I had read parts of before through another site, as I’ve written alongside Mitch for some time. Having read it before I know that It grew out of taking a different path than what Chris Claremont had decided to do with the Exiles in the actual comic. Out of that decision of a path for the series it has grown wonderfully from that. No longer is it just a book about doing different than Claremont. It’s a book for Mitch to bring stories of universes we’ve never seen, and bring together characters you won’t see fighting alongside one another or against one another anywhere else. The inclusion of Axel Asher and things from the Amalgam Universe was a nice touch. Jade Nova brings a bit of the Marvel and DC Universe into the title in that crazy mixed up way of the Amalgam. The world presented within this stand alone issue was very intriguing with the various Gods having rule over the Earth to hide from that which had wiped many of them out and chased them from their other realm homes. A nice touch was done with Loki and his usual tricks along with the way that Axel led the Exiles along. By adding Axel into the title new life was given to the concept of the Exiles being bounced around from reality to reality like the old issues, unlike them choosing where to go after Bedard’s run, while also throwing in a new curve with someone potentially very unstable and dangerous doing the leading. Hopefully we’ll see some more of this team and the myriad of universes out there from Mitch.
