Exiles #7
The Monolith continues to threaten Axel Asher as it attempts to destroy the entire multiverse. Meanwhile the Exiles are thrust suddenly into a universe with no explanation or way of understanding of what they are up against: the Black Lanterns.
I work for a pretty big Corporation (Comcast) and I know how much they love to preach about team-work and collaboration to their employees, and yet when you get any more than one in a room together they end up acting like 3-year-olds with their favorite toys.
Case in point: Marvel and DC have the two hottest comics properties in existence and the ability to make twice as much as they normally do with a collaborative effort but they really only gave it one shot and now you'd swear they were ancient enemies sworn to the each other's deaths.
This Exiles issue shows what potential such crossovers could have, and they don't need to be huge world-changing events in the main universe just throw in one part Exiles, one part Amalgam Universe, and one part DC Universe into a Marvel setting and you have limitless potential.
Mitch's decision to make Thanos a Black Lantern was perfect, if anyone would choose to be a Black Lantern in the Marvel U it would be Thanos. It was also interesting that Mitch made the particular Marvel U very close to the one we see in comics now. I felt almost like I was reading a current Marvel comic.
The character that stood out to me this issue was Jade Nova, it was interesting to see that she knew she was an amalgam of a man and a woman and what she thought of it all. Longshot made me like him all the more, if I had the chance to be friends with any of the Exiles, as cool as some of them are, I would choose Longshot because he's just the kind of guy I wanna know.
I felt that Morph and Zarda got a little bit of the shaft this issue but I only feel that because I love each of the characters already. The only other complaint is that a few moments here and there could have used just a bit more fleshing out for maximum impact.
Overall it was a great issue with an interesting take on one of DC's latest events. The awesome surprise return at the end even made me mutter a "hell yeah" out loud. If you haven't given Exiles a try this isn't a bad jumping on issue as Mitch handles catching you up to the story and situation very smoothly.
I give it 4 and 1/2 stars out of 5
