Dark X-Men #1 - Eric Zane
Dark X-Men, a title of characters with darker pasts being rehabilitated on a team concept by Xavier, gets a second chance at life after the first attempt came to an end and it starts off in a great way. The choice of Gambit for leading this team in both incarnations is a brilliant stroke as this is more the sort of team that Remy should be part of. On the regular X-Men teams he never seems to fully fit in and at times is reduced down to the traitor or the thief on the side as they can't fit him into the more in the spotlight and bright X-Men teams.
Domino is a perfect fit for this team as well as she doesn't need rehabilitation but she fits better on a team that is somewhat in the shadows and not as bright and shiny. Pitting them against not just Sugar Man for the first storyline but also against other universe versions of people tied to them in some way was a different and interesting way to go. Seeing a darker version of Dr. Nemesis was quite a treat as that character has become such a big thing in the last few years since Fraction brought him into Uncanny X-Men. Very hooked to this title and can't wait to see what is next.

I think this team roster is a bit quirky so I'm really intrigued to see how Eric is going to make it work. And how all these folks end up coming together in the first place honestly.

Thanks for the thoughts Scott and sorry it took me so long to get back to you.Yea when I took this title on, I wanted to keep as much of what Mitch had dibbed as possible. I didn't want to come in and just start rearranging every little thing. So that's why Gambit stayed as the leader because he really is a perfect fit for this sort of team. And when I saw Sugar Man, the idea of these alternate universe characters snapped into place. And the idea behind his initial use kind of hooks into how he was last used at Marvel. So that should give a sort of hint there where the story is going.

Being a few issues ahead on the series, I can definitely say there is a plan for how all of these folks get together. It largely revolves around Xavier, but what doesn't revolve around him in the world of mutants? But yea I can see the roster being seen as quirky, but the more I write these guys the more it works for me.
