“A charity concert. It’s perfect. It helps all those people out there and at the same time shows that mutants are still nothing to really fear. The bad seeds can’t be helped as much as the bad seeds in humanity as a whole can’t be helped. They just exist for better or worse.”
Kate nodded slowly at Alison’s words, her pen now tapping against the table they all sat at. “Perhaps. Though I still think a better come back would be to take one of the numerous offers you’ve been sent. The new American Idol spin off centering on mutants needs another celebrity judge. They’ve been courting the X-Men, Jean Grey in particular, but she’s turned them down over and over. They’d be more than happy to have you there.”
“Take the job that has me second choice to the X-Men? No thanks. I’m desperate but not that desperate.”
“What about the reality television angle, there are quite a few mutant shows popping up on MTV lately.” Jessica offered as she looked between both women.
“Exploitative garbage. We need to get the name of Dazzler back up in lights. Perhaps some small shows at local venues then we blow up to bigger things. Get the message out there that one of the first mutant celebrities is back.” Kate offered.
Alison stood and shook her head firmly, blond hair swaying as it fell down her back. “No. I think this charity concert is the best chance. I don’t just want to be that singer from the past coming back again. I want to make a difference and contribute to this new place for mutants in society. Not just exploit it for money. The best way to do that is start off doing something where no money is involved on my part. Think of all the money we could raise for those people there and their families. Mutants did this to them, so it’s only right that mutants do their best to right this wrong.”
Kate gave a small sigh. “I hate it when you’re right and get all preachy.”
“You know you love it.” Alison smiled letting her ruby red lips part into a smile. “First things first we’re gonna need to pick venues. Little Rock has to be our last stop. That is where we have the giant finale. The biggest show on the tour. We need something more than just myself as the selling point. Wait…I’ve got it. I need you to get word to the X-Men. I’m going to need their technology to contact an old friend that owes me a favor. You and Jessica can do that, I’ll get you the contact information for her.”
“Who are we contacting?”
“Lila Cheney. No other powered singer has got as many ties to mutants and would jump at a chance to help their cause than Lila. Besides she owes me big time for all that time in the past.”
“So if we’re going to the X-Men to contact her…where are you going?” Jessica looked earnestly at her employer, still trying to get over the fact that she was going to meet the X-Men.
“I’ve got a band to put together. I think I know exactly where to start."
