Moon Knight isn't a character who I've had a lot of appreciation for in recent years when he's been given genuine personality disorders. I was a Moon Knight fan when the character was a straight-up and down crime fighter whose multiple identities were just tools that he used to move through different levels of society to get his job done. It was a more pulpish version of the character that I enjoyed greatly.
Then came the period when the character was written by Doug Moench and art done by Bill Sienkiewicz. I enjoyed what they did but I really couldn't get behind the really blatant attempt to turn Moon Knight into Marvel's version of Batman.
And now we have the fan fiction series written by one of my favorite people, Tom Moses. And once again we get a different incarnation of the character. One that is apparently going to be more introspective than previous versions. You really can't say from one issue and I really like to give any new series at least three issues before making up my mind about it. But I appreciate the risk Tom took as this issue is pretty much inside Marc Spector's head. A lot of fan fiction writers think that they have to start off their series with a bang and major fight scenes. Well, that all depends on the character really.
But Moon Knight/Marc Spector has been through several versions and so there's a lot of leeway there for Tom to take the character anywhere he wants to go. Not every fan fiction series has to start off with stuff blowing up. Sometimes the conflicts in a man's own mind is harrowing enough.
