A new Avengers book? Color me intrigued. I think that Marvel Anthology is an understated site, with a lot happening over there. I don't know where the writers get recruited from, but it's pretty awesome to see so much talent being raised over there. I highly suggest checking out the multitude of titles available. This Avengers book in particular is an interesting read.
WHAT I LIKED: The Night Shift makes an appearence in the very first paragraph! I'm a fan of this group and love the dynamic of the members. It's great to see the team used, and I don't know why they don't show up more often. The initial battle is fun, quick-paced, and feels like an old school rumble from Kirby. I love the choice of the Avengers roster, even though it's a little oddball. The Coat of Arms characters is cool and I hope to see more of her.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: The quality of storytelling was a little to be desired. Plot, sentence structure, grammer, etc...these were all in play perfectly. But the delivery of this story seemed to be at a middle school reading level. I think the story could have greatly benefitted from a framing technique, or shifting the point of view between those involved in the scene. Details that could have been awesome were glazed over. A little more character history would have been helpful, too, because I was really confused when the Shroud showed up as an Avenger instead of working with the Night Shift.
OVERALL: I hope that this particular Avengers roster gets developed. I think that this team is well balanced and could provide for some interesting character interaction and growth. So long as the way the stories are told is fine-tuned, and details that would be exciting to read aren't tossed away, I'm definitely looking forward to more from this series.
