First time reading these series, so forgive my not knowing all the details.
· Capekillers #3, by Tim Veselka
Great issue! A couple punctuation errors here and there but it didn't distract from the story. I feel bad for O'Grade immediately. He seems to be in the doghouse from whatever happened when he was still a Capekiller. And is Project Toxin the same kid of Carnage/Venom Toxin? Is that how it even happened. Loved Lucas and Humphries (probably because I'm itching to write a partner story). And the use of Joystick. But I'm a fan of anything that references the Clone Saga. Seems like a Thunderbolt like team is in the works here, so I'm excited to see where this goes. 8/10
· Captain America #3, by Tobias Christopher
Gary Busey Home for the Mentally Incapacitated. I never get tired of TC's pop culture references. I love Vermin. I have since The Child Within story way back when ('91 to be exact). A great one shot issue. I feel like Vermin was a bit corny here with his whole "feed my rats" campaign but I guess I'm used to the tortured Edward Whelan I met in the aforementioned storyline. I really hope Chase sticks around, I think Cap/Steve could use someone to be a positive influence on. Really impressed by TC's take on Cap as well! 8/10
· Dark X-Men #2, by Eric Zane
A lot of set-up mixed with present day action here. It was a little off-putting but it didn't stop me from enjoying the issue. Juggernaut/Cyber was the high point here as I always hated Cyber and seeing Juggy kick the crap out of him was enjoyable. I'm also enjoying the take on heroic Juggernaut here as I missed those runs in the actual comics when he was on the side of the angels. I've always been pretty meh about Fantomex going back to the New X-Men days, so I'll be looking forward to seeing where you go with him. One complaint: more Gambit, lol. 6/10
· Master of Kung-Fu #10, by David Brashear
I've never read an issue of Master of Kung-Fu before so I've never been familiar with Shang-Chi. And even tho I'm still not familiar with him after this issue, I'm ready for issue #11. Damned has always been one of the masters of character focus issues. Shinobi comes off as a legitimate threat the whole issue and it almost makes me wish he had his own solo MA series. It's that good. Hoping to actually get to see Damned's Shang-Chi next ish, lol. 9/10
· New X-Men #1, by Jeffrey Rist
Good first issue. It's always difficult to introduce a new series, especially a team book, but I feel like Jeffrey did a decent job here. I would've liked for the issue to be a bit longer, mostly so there will less set-up in issue #2 and more plot, but that's just me. And I also would like to know the actual number of teams Xavier has formed at this point. 25? 37? Just wondering, lol. 5/10
· X-Men #14, by Brent Lambert
I love Sinister! He's been one of my favorite X-Characters for a long time but I always seemed to come in and out of the major storylines he's been in. Great to see him being, well, Sinister. I definitely will be reading the past 13 issues in quick order. Love the use of Blink here as well, I'm a big fan of the original Exiles. But yeah, it seems I've been missing some awesome shit in this title. I won't be missing anymore. 10/10
· Yellowjacket #9, by Anthony Crute
Wow. Everytime I think I've read the best issue of the new releases, another one tops it. What beats Yellowjacket and Ant-Man taking on a sick species of super apes? Not a damn thing. Perfect action and dialogue all the way thru. My only complaint is about how long Scott held out from the venom. I don't recall Scott having any type of superhuman abilities so he should have fallen out at some point. But this is the funny books after all and I used to have a habit of having Stephanie Brown get the shit kicked out of her and still winning the day, so whatever, lol. This is definitely another book I need to catch-up on. 9.75/10 because of the snake bite, lol.
I also love the fact that you have complete respect for Pym being one of the greatest minds in the Marvel Universe.
· 1970s Fantastic Four Annual #1, by Scott Casper
Okay. You mean to tell me that Scott Casper has been writing the 70's adventures of the FF in the Mighty Marvel Manner for 13 issues now and nobody bothered to @!$%&*# tell me?! I feel like the biggest idiot in the world right now.
This issue was...perfection. No better way to say it. Considering I'm an old fogey now, anything that conjures up feelings of classic Marvel wins with me. If you had shown this to me and said here's an old lost Stan Lee FF script, I would've fully believed you. Great work Scott. I'm now speechless and jealous that I didn't think of this idea first! 20/10. It's my rating system, I'll change it if I want!
