Infinity #1 by Barry Reese
THE GOOD: Barry writes a pretty good Adam Warlock. I enjoyed his depiction here. It was also nice to see Count Abyss in the mix. I can’t remember him being used too much in fanfic. I used him in M2K’s Avengers way back when I and I can’t remember seeing him since then until now. Barry also seems to have a good grip on Gamora. Her deadliness is shown without it being beaten over your head. I think my favorite part of this issue though was seeing the effect the Mind Gem had when used by Carol. I know it seems like a trivial detail in the grand scheme of the issue, but I enjoyed it.
THE BAD: Man, the action scenes in the issue were a bit too brisk for my taste. Let’s slow it down and get into some of the meat of what is going on. I heard shadow wraiths but I really didn’t have an image to work off of. I just imagined some of those little ghouls from Final Fantasy and went from there. I think more detail in the action would have made this issue more enjoyable than it already was. Also, the whole idea of the Infinity Station really just struck me as being a bit too much like The Fantastic Colonies in ALL GOD’S CHILDREN. I think I would have liked the Infinity Station better if it was meant to be just for the team.
OVERALL: A pretty good first issue. Cosmic titles seem to be on the rise in fanfic as of late. I don’t think Infinity will be lost in the shuffle.
