Infinity #3 by Barry Reese
THE GOOD: The characters are where it’s at with this series. Barry has a good handle on them and he makes them all distinct. No two characters feel the same, which is a definite plus. I was hoping Barry wouldn’t take too long to get to the Dark Warlock plot that’s been brewing in the background since issue one. Now its out there and ready to be fulfilled. Adam’s dealings in Thanos’ “world” were pretty well described and fit in with the psychosis of the character. That was probably my favorite scene of the issue and it went even further to show just how well Barry knows these characters. He dissects Thanos psychologically in a way that’s both fantastic and believable.
THE BAD: I’m not sure about Rich being portrayed as being so flat out corny. He just came off that way really badly this issue. I would think given his circumstances he would definitely be a lot more focused. I don’t know. Something about him just felt off. And Lilandra is reading less like an Empress of a freaking huge empire and more like Senator Amidala. If she’s going to continue to be in this series I would really like to show some of the backbone I know she has. Yes, she’s been usurped a few times, but I don’t think that’s the important part. The important part is that she’s come back from it every time. How many rulers in human history have come back from that many coups? She really needs to be shown with a lil more fire I think. Because that’s the kind of person that would be able to do what she’s done.
OVERALL: A pretty solid series. Barry has a handle on most of the characters and I can tell he is having fun with what he is writing. Which is always a plus in my book.
