One of the things I have enjoyed greatly since reading the X-Men Alpha issue at the site is how the mutant world is shaping up at MA. Xavier’s dream is the closet to realized it has ever been. Hell the X-Men are even celebrities in Chicago at this point. X-Force fits in nicely in this new world, because as Havok noted at the start of the issue sometimes secret dark things need to be done in order to keep the peaceful ideal world so many want.
The cast is very varied, but they mesh together very well. Madrox and Abyss offer a traditional comic relief, but at the same time as things are deadly serious there is humor in the interactions of the others. From Marrow’s beef with all, to Monet’s predicament in the end and the reactions to it. While I enjoy Marvel’s current version of X-Force, this series shows that one can do a darker ops type book without having to maim and kill something or someone every issue.

One of the things I have enjoyed greatly since reading the X-Men Alpha issue at the site is how the mutant world is shaping up at MA. Xavier’s dream is the closet to realized it has ever been. Hell the X-Men are even celebrities in Chicago at this point. I've said this before, but it's worth repeating. When we approached this we felt it was important to push them in the right direction. I know that after 10yrs of struggling to have people like me, knowing all the while what every future that I have witness has in store for me I would probably quit. What incentive is there to fight, when every thing around you tells you that you're going to fail. That Apocalypse has taken over the earth, or Sentinel's have eradicated most of the population. I would feel like that the 10yrs of my life I invested in this struggle did absolutely nothing but make people hate me more. It just didn't make sense to keep the X-Men treading water, when we could let Xaviers dream advance a little bit, give the mutants a win, and still tell great stories about them based on that. The threats would be MORE damaging because of that win as they would threaten to take everything that they achieved away. The backslide would PUT them 10yrs behind. In a way, changing the stakes and the environment of the X-Men just this little bit was radical enough to open up a whole new unexplored territory for us. And you NAILED X-Force as a book. It still has humor, despite how dark this book is. But this book will experience an evolution so hopefully it won't lose that humor that Brent's been able to bring to this book to help balance out the dark, not-so-nice shit they're all gonna have to do.

Should have responded to this earlier. My apologies.
I'm glad you're able to see Erik's vision here. He had a powerful sight for what he wanted MA's X-Titles to be and he went for it. I was more than happy to have the opportunity to become a part of it. X-FORCE and X-FACTOR are my two contributions to the overall tapestry that Erik was trying to create. So I'm really just trying to help uplift this vision with my measly writings lol.
The cast was something devised by both Erik and me over a phone conversation. The role of Havok, Madrox, and CeCe was given to me. So I sort of built around that. Abyss and Pipeline definately provide some good fodder for Alex and his past. I hope you'll pick up on that in future issues. Marrow was a much needed addition because I see such room for character exploration and growth there. Monet is just someone I've been itching to write for the longest. So I'm glad everyone has worked out for you there.
There will definately be blood and action, but I don't want this series to be dragged down by its dark elements. I want them to be there, but I want the main focus to be on the cast and their conflict with being in these kinds of situations.
