First, to business. There's just a few more days until we hit the deadline for outlines for Amazing Alternity Stories, so if you haven't thought of a concept yet, do get cracking. And word has reached us that Joel Jenkins has started work on the fourth Dire Planet novel (more on that later), and Derrick Ferguson nears completion of the second Dillon novel (also, more later). So good news all around, eh? We have a treat for you this week, as we've got a sneak peek at Joel Jenkins' The Nuclear Suitcase, soon to be released. So head over to the PWP blog for a look see. And just as a reminder...our message board is up and running, so feel free to stop in and say hi or start a discussion on any of our fine titles! Finally, if you've got the time, spread the word about PWP to your friends! www.pulpworkpress.com/

Oh, a damn shame I just stumbled on this. Writing for that anthology could have been something really fun.
Dr. John Bell (the medical teacher who Sherlock Holmes was based on) eing dragged into some kind of unsolvable murder mystery.
Fridtjof Wedel-Jarlsberg Nansen the intrepid explorer lost in the ice cold wildreness of the far north and his adventures with the strange and mysterious people he finds there in the forgotten kingdoms of the lost continent.
Madame Curie....Vs Godzilla (heh, that's a joke)
Harry Houdini- Stage magician and escapist supreme using his keen mind to solve crimes and set free all of those who are shackled in the chains of opression.
Charles Fort- Paranormal investigator
That's without even mentioning Wells, Conan Doyle himself, Tesla, Edison etc (and all of those are just the 1800s off the top of my head)
Heck as I think about it Eddie Chapman is essentially already a pulp character. A common bloke who became a very successful safe cracker...not too successful as he was caught and sent to prison on the channel islands. The Channel Islands (after he had escaped once and was returned) were invaded by the Nazis in WWII and he and several others were transfered to a German Prison in Paris. There he managed to persuade them to use him as a spy. He was then trained up and parachuted back to Britain, where he went straight to the authorities and became the first double agent. He with the authorities intercepted and got information from the Germans, spread misinformation and faked british sabotage (they roped in magicians for special effects). he then went back to Germany and did the opposite there, commiting actual sabotage whilst pretending to be on the German's side. It was his misinformation which meant the V1 rocket overshot London so much...which was a very good thing.
The magician in question above is actually this man-http://www.channel4.com/history/microsites/R/real_lives/jasper.html who is a treasure trove of ideas himself.
Orwell and Verne could also have some brilliant stuff spun out of their work
As I said shame.
Once I start my job and get a few pennies again I'll be sure to grab a book or two. I like all of the fic I've read from you guys so that would be really cool to have it in printed book form.

On March 1, the history books get a lot more interesting...
Aztec vampires gorge themselves on a small Mexican village. A masked hero of the 1940s stumbles onto a town that time forgot. A gunslinging exorcist works to save a boy from demonic possession. These are the stories of the American West your history teacher never told you about... because she was scared!
Edited by Russ Anderson and published by Pulpwork Press (www.pulpworkpress.com), HOW THE WEST WAS WEIRD is an anthology featuring nine original, genre-mashing stories of cowboys, Indians, aliens, exorcists, and tentacled horrors from other worlds... all wrapped in an original cover by Jim Rugg (STREET ANGEL, AFRODISIAC).
Those stories? Glad you asked, pardner.
Camazotz, by Josh Reynolds (available as a free preview at the Pulpwork Press website) Wyrm Over Diablo, by Joel Jenkins Space Miners, by Ian Taylor Don Cuevo's Curative, by Thomas Deja The Town With No Name, by Mike McGee and Chris Munn Sins of the Past, by Barry Reese You Need to Know What's Coming, by Ian Mileham Of All the Plagues a Lover Bears, by Derrick Ferguson Out South of Borachon Creek, by Bill Kte'pi
Cover price is $11.95 - that's peanuts for this kind of entertainin'.
HOW THE WEST WAS WEIRD will be available for order on Pulpwork and Amazon on March 1. But if you'd like to get a jump on everyone else, it's available for pre-order right now on the Pulpwork Press website. Order before March 1 and get free shipping in the US!
