Astonishing X-Men #3 Review ma.bhyphen.com/astonishingxmen03.htmlI have to admit, I was skeptical of the X-Men line as Tony, Brent, and Erik conceived it. I still am, but so far the stories I have read from Astonishing X-Men have been getting better since Scott took over, and added his own personal touch to the series. I liked him paying a little homage to the scene with Sunfire and Firestar that Dino did previously, and then expanding on it with the attack by Warp Savant; I thought that was a cool touch. The ruthlessness that Cyclops showed in taking down Warp during his mental battle with Jean; however, was unexpected. I expected Cyclops to continue to go in the more light hearted direction, but this seems hint he maybe returning to his hard ass roots. I also liked the fact that Jubilee acted every bit the mall rat that she has always been, but showed a more serious side. Some people always try to stray her by making her too serious, or they don't know what to do with her so they go too far in the other direction. I'm hoping that Scott will find a balance between the two because the Jubester is one of my favorite X-Men. As for the technical side, Scott made no spelling, or grammar mistakes that I could see, nor did I see any typos. Here's hoping for another good issue! -Mick

Thanks for the review Mick. I'm really glad to be writing Astonishing, and love the team and stuff that Dino set up before me, and the direction the X-books are going in. With Cyclops, stay tuned. There will be some big changes for the first X-Man. Especially since with the whole Apocalypse merging thing, it's bound to change the man some. Jubilee is also one of my favorite X-Men, so I'm hoping I can keep up the good work with her in future issues. I like the Mall Rat indeed. Glad to see I made no mistakes lol. Thanks again for the review and I hope you like the next issue that focuses on Banshee, Longshot, and Kitty.

You're more than welcome, man. As I said, while I am skeptical of the direction presented; AXM has been a solid read so far, and I'm sure it will continue to be in your capable hands.

I appreciate that you're giving the line a chance, Mick. With any luck I hope we'll surprise you. I just see a whole new world of opportunity out there to explore...and with giving the X-Men a little win we give them much more to lose, so I hope the threats we have built up will rise to the occasion and be much more potent.

It had nothing to do with the threats posed to the teams, Erik. My contention was that the racism pendulum would swing the other way like it has in real life with the younger generation of mutants bullying normal humans, older mutants, more coexistence believing mutants, and mutants without powers; while the media would gloss over it due to fear from accusations of racism from mutant rights parties.
