Black Widow Moonknight Spider Man Luke Cage Daredevil Ronin (Put somebody new in the suit) Hawkeye Mockingbird (If she was still around) Echo
I call this the street level Avengers if they had one. They take on people like the Kingpin or do covert strike missions that the other Avengers cant know about. Think the new X-Force from Marvel only for the Avengers.

I think MC hit the nail on the head with his analysis of the team. I'd definitely include Cap, Iron Man and the Vision in any roster as well as Ms. Marvel/Warbird. The rest of the characters I choose will really vary from what day of the week it is.

I really like JD's team here. I'd read that series. I could definitely see Clint or Tasha seeing a need and putting that team together.
On an ongoing basis, don't know how well it'd work. For a short term story (a year at most?), it'd be great!

I more, or less have done the roster I wanted to write. I can honestly say that the experience has been something, but I'm not sure if you will see me write another Avengers team in the future.

For a short term story (a year at most?), it'd be great! I could see that work for a THUNDERBOLTS mini-series. Where they're forced to come together for once specific reason, but I don't know if I see them lasting longer than it takes to complete the task. It'd be a fun excercise to get all these guys to interact and explore their personality conflicts, relationships and since they share NYC (mostly) what they're views of the city are the direction it's headed.

I don't know about calling them Avengers but I can see a group of street level heroes getting together on a semi-regular basis to pool their resources and abilities to combat threats such as The Maggia trying to expand their operations or get the jump on other crimelords such as The Owl, The Kingpin and their ilk. Myabe it's just me but when I hear the name Avengers I think of the guys who stopped The Kree/Skrull War (well, it was really Rick Jones but you get the idea) and take on the likes of Kang, Ultron and Doctor Doom. I guess I don't understand attempts by writers both professional and fan fiction to scale back The Avengers in power and prestige.

Agree completely, Derrick. No offense to JD, but it's a bit hard to take the "Earth's Mightiest Heroes, gathered to face the foes no single hero could withstand" motto seriously if they're going up against the Kingpin. That kind of set-up is perfect for a Marvel Knights title, but it's not the Avengers.

No offense taken my friend. The whole point of this was to pick some faves for a team. I picked characters. lol.
Ive got another list now lol.......
Captain America Wasp War Machine She Hulk Hawkeye Songbird Wolverine Spider Man Vision
Caps tactical and leadership skills can make any team work.
Janet has proven shes as much a leader as anybody and would make good coleader.
War Machine, Hawkeye, and Songbird brings your firepower.
She Hulk brings strength to the team.
Spider Man, Vision, and Wolverine would bring stealth and infiltration.

Another good team, although I don't like Wolverine in the group much. Your reasoning for his place, however, makes a lot of sense.

That's a good team, but here's another Captain America Yellow Jacket (Hank Pym) Wasp Thor Hulk (Fixit, or Professor persona) Iron Man Two bruisers; two, maybe three technological geniuses, and a lot of combat experience. -Mick

JD, I could definitely get behind that team if only Spidey and Wolverine weren't there. Those two just don't fit with the Avengers, IMO. Replace Spidey with either Julia Carpenter or Jessica Drew and Wolverine with the Black Panther, and I'd be all over that team in a second.

If I was making an Avengers team I would go with
Captain America
Iron Man
Giant Man
Thor
Captain Marvel (Genis Vell)
Namor
Ms. Marvel
Doc Strange
Songbird
I think each bring something to the table in terms of expertise and could take on any for Mystical, Space, and Earth based.
Cap is of course tacticle and the one man rallying point.
Thor is your Gentle Warrior with 1000s of years of battle experience
Iron Man is your tech guy along with Pym. Together these two are rivals and colleagues that make the team prepared
Genis-Vell, cause I think he is a cool legacy character and has gotten the shaft from Marvel proper and has basically the ability to know just about anything given his cosmic awareness. I mean take Spidey sense and put it on a cosmic scale. I mean thats some warning.
Namor, King of Seas and arrogant. Causes friction, but give his kingdom being 70% of the world and his history with Cap it fits for me
Ms. Marvel, Carol just rocks. another experienced in the ways of the cosmic world, plus a powerhouse she fits in well.
Doc Strange, if this is the premier super team you have the master of mystic arts on your team nuff said.
Songbird is the viewers way into this team of power houses. No slouch herself Melissa is that person who can kick some serious ass and her power set fit s rather nicely in with the others.
Kick in Jocosta as the Computer AI for the team and you are all golden.

The only issue I'd have with Doctor Strange on the Avengers is that the team is generally a force for good and some form of rule/law enforcement in broader terms. Doc Strange, to me, is a person that should transcend good and evil. There should be some things that are simply below his radar. And my reasoning for that is Doom. Strange became the Sorcerer Supreme fair and sqaure, but the fact that a guy like Victor can compete for the title alone speaks volumes to just how much more the role means than just as a force for good or evil. Unless it's about something that's just overwhelming like a force of nature, or other threats that can subvert reality or whole planets...I don't see him concerning himself with it as there are others who fit into the role of protector like a Daredevil. To Strange, all should play as equally important of a role from DD all the way up to Thor as far as their area of expertise goes.
It's almost the same thing with Dr. Fate. He's an Agent of Balance...charged to make sure that neither Choas or Order gain the upper hand on each other. Yet, he's almost shoehorned into the role of a superhero...which to me bias' the character to good...which is an aspect of order. Unless Dr. Fate played both sides of Chaos and Order then he's not really a true Agent of Balance. Unless Chaos is so overwhelmingly in majority over order that Fate is forced to be on the JLA I see him as above it. If there's a good 50/50 balance then for every act of good Fate does he should do something almost as equally awful. Unless there's a villain in the role of Dr. Fate and is a bad guy doing good things as a way of Balance and then doesn't mind kicking kittens down a well or something to keep Order in check.
